Rashad Trabulsi's team at Manhattan Wellness Group consists of acupuncturists James Yu and Soyoung Jang, both of whom have years of clinical experience utilizing acupuncture care to help treat infertility in women.
How does Acupuncture Work?
Acupuncture is the insertion of ultra-thin, sterile needles into specific acupuncture points on the body which reside on channels or meridians; these are pathways in both the exterior and interior of the body. These points, when needled, can regulate the way in which the body functions.
Acupuncture and Fertilization:
Acupuncture treatment can be used to aid women who are either struggling to get pregnant or to prevent a miscarriage in women who have a history of them. The use of targeted needles can result in increased blood flow in certain parts of the body, including a woman’s pelvis. This can help and prepare a woman to become pregnant, or help to manage certain side effects of a pregnancy such as nausea, moodiness or fatigue.
Acupuncture and IVF / Egg Donor Transfer:
Acupuncture is commonly performed on women prior to an in vitro fertilization (IVF) or a donor egg transfer. Women have the highest levels of a successful IVF or donor egg transfer when acupuncture treatment is started 3-4 months prior to insemination. The acupuncture care helps by addressing problems that affect fertility such as an under-functioning thyroid (hypothyroidism) or over-functioning thyroid (hyperthyroidism). Clinical observations from the Berkley Center for Reproductive Wellness suggest that the most effective fertility treatments involve some amount of acupuncture.
