At Manhattan Wellness Group, James Yu and his team of acupuncturists deliver the best treatment to heal patients dealing with a range of physiological problems.
Cupping is used to relieve back and neck pains, stiff muscles, anxiety, fatigue, migraines, rheumatism, etc.
How does Cupping Therapy work?
The suction and negative pressure provided by cupping can loosen muscles, encourage blood flow, and sedate the nervous system. Cupping works by stimulating blood flow to the region of the body where the cups are placed.
Cupping is comfortable and relaxing for some, while others may find it a little uncomfortable. The sensation is often characterized as deep warmth and tingling long after the treatment has ended. During your session, the therapist will take several glass cups to apply to your body. For each cup used, a vacuum is created using a flame. The cup is then applied to the skin. The suction anchors the cup to the body, and the area of skin covered is drawn up a few millimeters into the cup. Generally, the cups are left in place for approx 3 to 5 minutes as the skin begins to redden due to the congestion of blood flow.
The modern version of cupping uses a rubber pump to create a vacuum inside the cup. Practitioners often use medical-grade silicone cups. These are pliable enough to be moved from place to place on the skin and produce a massage-like effect.
We have a special promotion for new patients only – Cupping Therapy Sessions.
