E-Stim with Ultrasound at Manhattan Wellness Group

E-Stim with Ultrasound at Manhattan Wellness Group

About Electrical Stimulation (E-Stim) with Ultrasound Wave Therapy

This treatment uses the classic ultrasound head to apply electrical stimulation and ultrasound waves combined to the targeted areas. What makes this therapy unique is that regardless of contour on any body area, this modality can effectively treat it.

Dr. Trabulsi has done advanced studies to enhance this technique, specifically in treating Radiating Pain, Herniated Disc, Sciatica, Spinal Stenosis, and Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. As an expert in this field, Dr. Trabulsi can manipulate the Electric Stimulation (E-Stim) along the nerves path while simultaneously stimulating the pain at its origin - spine or distal extremity.

This technique and skill make Manhattan Wellness Group unique, and all our physical therapists utilize it for multiple conditions. Ultrasound waves enhance the E-Stim effect and help muscle relaxation as well as decreasing inflammation and edema. We bring a holistic approach, comprising advanced physiotherapy modalities, therapeutic exercises, nutrition, traction decompression, and specialized joint manipulation techniques.

This therapy has successfully treated sports injuries due to the fast recovery response with ligament and tendon sprain/strain, muscle injury, and nerve entrapment release.

What is Electrical Muscle Stimulation?

Electrical Muscle Stimulation uses electrical impulses to create contractions in the affected areas, causing increased blood circulation. It reproduces the effects of exercise and can prevent muscle atrophy after a prolonged injury where movement is inhibited. Research shows E-Stim is used to help treat and even prevent many medical issues, including:

  • Carpal tunnel
  • Connective and dermal tissue repair
  • Increase in the range of motion in joints
  • Muscle atrophy
  • Muscle spasms
  • Muscle tension associated with long periods of sitting, standing, or lifting heavy objects
  • Post-surgical muscle regeneration
  • Sciatica
  • Sports injuries
  • Tennis elbow
  • Ulcers and chronic wounds
  • Constant headaches
  • Numbness of limbs
  • Back pain
What is Ultrasound Wave Therapy?

Therapeutic ultrasound stimulates tissue below the skin’s surface using sound waves. Essentially, it is a high-frequency massage that can go up to five inches deep below the surface of the skin. This high-frequency sound affects tiny molecules and cells in your body, causing them to move.

Ultrasound has been used therapeutically since the 1940s. It is applied through a wand-like instrument that comes in direct contact with the skin near the affected muscle. In addition to heat, therapeutic ultrasound causes an increase in:

  • Tissue relaxation to heal muscle more quickly and effectively with less scar tissue
  • Local blood flow to reduce swelling, chronic inflammation and promote bone healing
  • Scar tissue breakdown

Healing of injured muscles can take a long time because people continue to use the injured body part. This leads to repeated stressing the injury. Regular treatments of ultrasound during the healing process will reduce pain and reduce the time needed to heal.

Together these techniques give tremendous results and faster injury recovery. Contact Manhattan Wellness Group for a proper evaluation, diagnosis, and a treatment plan tailored to you.
